2 drivers arrested on suspicion of DUI at Poway checkpoint

A DUI checkpoint in San Diego County File photo courtesy of SDSO Deputies from the Poway Sheriff s Station arrested two drivers suspected of DUI at a Poway Road checkpoint while issuing multiple citations personnel commented Nearly vehicles passed through Friday s checkpoint in the block of Poway Road were sent to secondary evaluation with seven motorists examined further for doable DUIs according to a Sheriff s news release The citations went to six drivers for allegedly operating a conveyance while unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license seven drivers for allegedly not having a driver s license in their possession and one for an alleged traffic signal violation No vehicles were towed and no drug arrests were made DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on statistics showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes The primary purpose is to promote citizens safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road Funding for the checkpoint was provided to the San Diego County Sheriff s Office by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
