Petco Park, surrounding blocks in Ballpark District get new Cleanup Crew

An aerial view of Petco Park and the city of San Diego Photo courtesy of city of San Diego The -block Ballpark District near Petco Park will have a designated maintenance and safety gang starting on July The Downtown San Diego Partnership and the Ballpark District Public Partnership collaborated to launch the Cleanup Crew The operation company will work seven days a week year-round to maintain the area in the East Village through litter and graffiti removal power washing and the management of dog waste stations The Cleanup Crew is part of an effort to enhance the fan and society experience in the area by making the Ballpark District more welcoming and vibrant according to Caroline Perry chief operating officer of the San Diego Padres and chair of the Ballpark District Group Partnership Board The Padres care deeply about this neighborhood and the people who live work and enjoy world class events including Padres games here Perry mentioned in a press release The Ballpark District is a new subdistrict of the Downtown Partnership s Property and Business Improvement District also referred to as the Clean and Safe Venture The new subdistrict includes Petco Park the San Diego Central Library and the Metropolitan Transit System headquarters Every years the Property and Business Improvement District is assessed and renewed by a ballot of all property owners in the district The majority of property owners voted in favor of the initiative for the next decade The San Diego City Council authorized the renewal in January it will go into effect on July During the process the Clean and Safe Initiative heard from property owners that blocks surrounding Petco had specific demands that were yet to be met We work every day to provide the best services at the best value to the property owners within the Downtown PBID declared Justin Apger chief operations officer for the Downtown San Diego Partnership The renewal of the scheme grants the opportunity to six other urban neighborhoods to receive specialized services similar to the Ballpark District For more information on the new Ballpark district there will be an open house on June for property owners businesses and residents of the area Flyers will be distributed throughout the district
