When to expect District 1’s special primary election results

A voter places a ballot in a drop box at the County Registrar of Voters Photo by Chris Stone Times of San Diego Tuesday is the final day for San Diego residents to cast ballots in the special primary balloting for the county s First Supervisorial District Nearly mail ballots have already been returned according to the county Voters can expect updates on poll results throughout April and into early May The first set of unofficial balloting night results will come in shortly after p m Tuesday This update will include mail ballots received before Balloting Day and vote center ballots from early voting between March and April After the first unofficial description poll night updates will only include vote center ballots cast on Balloting Day More unofficial results will be published by p m on Thursday Friday and Monday Voting results must be certified by May although for this special electoral process the Registrar of Voters expects certification to occur on an earlier date Thirteen voting centers will be open Tuesday including the Registrar s office and six additional centers open until p m Any voter who is in line at a vote center or an official ballot drop box at p m will be allowed to vote However no one can join the line after the p m deadline Seven people including four elected administrators are running to replace former San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas in her District seat in Tuesday s primary Vargas declared in late December that she would not serve her second term despite winning re-election in November The candidates are Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre Chula Vista Deputy Mayor Carolina Chavez Potency consultant Elizabeth Efird Business owner and former Imperial County Supervisor Louis Fuentes Chula Vista Mayor John McCann San Diego City Councilwoman Vivian Moreno Marketing firm associate Lincoln Pickard The winner will fill the vacant seat until January If no candidate receives a majority of the votes on Tuesday a runoff will take place July Residents of District who are not registered to vote can visit any vote center or the Registrar s office to conditionally register and vote provisionally through April The Registrar s office can confirm when an individual ballot was received at sdvote com For more information on voting in Tuesday s poll visit the county website
